Refers to inflammation of the head of penis and foreskin. Symptoms includes redness, itching and soreness at the end of the penis. It may be caused by bacteria infection, or exposure to caustic soap. Poor hygiene, especially in uncircumcised men, is also one of the causing factor. But the most common cause is affected by the yeast Candida albicans which causes thrush. The symptoms include yeasty smegma buildup under the foreskin, rashes on penis head, pain and redness on penis and foreskin. Mild infection needs salt water bath. Moderate to severe inflammation needs anti-fungal cream or anitbiotics tablets treatment. In severe cases, circumcision may be the best option. The best way is to prevent it by observing proper hygiene daily and wash frequently. During bathing, the foreskin should be retracted to adequately clean and dry the area beneath it.
